LAKE MARTIN ROOKERY

I set out Sunday morning with my landscape lens and a goal of getting some "swamp scenes" at a place I had never been near Breaux Bridge, LA. I turned onto something called "Rookery Road" and put away the wides and shot yet another waterfowl series. The mating plumage was quite impressive. I can't pass up nature scenes like these.

ANGEL'S WINGS

Little Blue Herons had nests a few feet apart all in the marshy underbrush. Some were still setting on eggs and others had older chicks.

We watched these chicks peck their way (with mom's help) out of the shell. It he 1/2 hour we were there two chicks emerged from shells in this nest

A juvenile LIttle Blue Heron, already beautiful but not quite blue yet.
