Lake Martin Rookery 2016
This swamp rookery is south of Lafayette, LA. I visited a couple of weeks ago and there were no birds there. This morning there were thousands of egrets there and lots of nest building. I'm not a biologist but as I understand the males build the nest and flaunt there aigrettes (the white plume) to attract the ladies. The swamp will be green soon and the birds will be in the nests until May so I hope to make a few more trips.
